 About Carla

Music educator Carla Moreno, holds a M. M. Ed from the University of North Texas. She has traveled extensively solo across the globe exploring and documenting the sights and sounds of the world since age twenty-two.  Her fascination for music and world cultures goes beyond mere curiosity. “It’s more than just the music,” Carla explains. “It’s about the stories behind the music, the people’s life experiences from which musical expression is born.”  From blogs and published writings, to her most recent venture in video journalism, Carla’s innate ability for storytelling allows her audience a sneak peek into the musical stories and intimate personal journey in people’s lives.

Carla’s documentary style of storytelling is made up of a simple flipcam and the basic editing tools of her Mac computer. With a single backpack, a bit of street savvy, and fluency in English and Spanish, with Portuguese in the works, Carla is able to travel boldly and confidently into the unknown to bring back inspiring stories of ordinary people doing extraordinary things through the power of music.

An accomplished musician and educator, Carla’s impressive resumé includes guest lecturer on music and culture at several universities and national music conferences, radio DJ, emcee, Latin music specialist for a customized media solutions company, performing with legendary jazz artist, Jon Hendricks, auditioning as a quarter finalist for the JEOPARDY Clue Crew, and most recently, serving as one of twenty nationally selected MusicianCorps fellows for Music National Service. In addition, Carla has written for Global Rhythm, Percussive Notes, and Silver-Burdett Ginn.
